Our thoughts and prayers are with the Harmon Family during this tragic time. Kansas City will not be the same without Don. The Auto Donation Center of KC and the American Children's Society have great respect and admiration for Don Harmon.
Fox 4 "Harman 300,000" Race for Charity - May 11, 2006
When Kansas City Fox 4 Weatherman Don Harman decided to retire his car it wasn't a moment too soon. It had nearly 300,000 miles on it. Since the car's decrepitude had been a long term source of kidding, Mr. Harman decided to make the vehicular retirement a local event by "racing" it as the odometer officially hit 300,000. The proceeds would go to charity. But he had a problem; the car was in such bad shape it may not even make it to the racetrack for the event.
This is where the Auto Donation Center of Kansas City came to the rescue. Midwest Regional Manager Mike Lane donated his own time and the use of the company truck to insure that the dilapidated vehicle was where it needed to be. The car was transported from the Fox 4 studio to the racetrack by American Children's Society's big flatbed truck. So it didn't have to break a sweat until it reached the track and it could devote its remaining mileage to the big show.
We're happy to report that the event was a success, $14,000 was raised for charity and Mr. Harman wrote a nice letter of gratitude. We also took lots of pictures. Enjoy!
